Sir,
This is in response to a request from your office for information regarding the
constitutional crisis in Christiana.
The newswire was correct (we really do need CNN amongst others in Utania, sir). On
Monday afternoon, a little after 2pm, the Senate Minority leader, the second most powerful
member of that body, called for the abdication of the King.
The Senate has the power, under special rules, to accuse a member of the Royal Family
and demand their abdication. In this case, the claim is against HRH King Edward II for
interfering with dismissal proceedings of the Prime Minister some months ago. This is not
dissimilar to the powers of the Utanian Parliament over the Presidency.
While I anticipate that this will certainly preoccupy the Christianan government, who
support the King, for some days, the impact on Utania and relations with Utania should be
negligible. Should the King be forced to abdicate, he may choose his son as successor. This
may result in some changes in policy, though the King is generally officially neutral on
matters of government. Once again, the capital shall be fixated for some days, but I doubt the
ability of the opposition to gain the necessary two-thirds majority to remove the King.
I will, as requested, do my utmost to keep your office abreast of the situation,
President.
Yours sincerely,
Ambassador John Crawley,
Christianshaven.
