Burovians sink Conservatives in several seats
Saturday, November 17, 301 AP Web posted at 2035 UST. With 25% counted in five rural electorates north of Luka, the Burovians appear certain to have ransacked the formerly Conservative strongholds, possibly winning two seats and even handing, by slim margins, the three others seats to the Peoples Party. The revelation was made by Professor David Kapur on Zeitgeist News tonight, who is presenting analysis of the results of the Lasanne state election on Zeitgeist News, which is broadcasting nationwide from Utania's Channel Two. The result could seriously jeopardise Governor Hope's government, by taking seats that once belonged to the Conservatives, and handing them either to the Peoples Party or to the Burovians. Prof. Kapur also noted that this was a "clean sign" of the influence of the liberal Burovian Party in both state and federal politics. "I think it is safe to say that this result being so localised is proof of the cult of personality that Mr Boornal has. He is a very effective communicator, and has been very actively campaigning in the northern electorates, including in his own former state electorate, and his inspiration has lead many voters to vote for him." "Effectively, the result is that conservative voters are divided in their voting, some for the Burovians, some for the Conservatives, whereas once they would have only voted Conservative. Now, the result is that the divided vote is threatened by the normal Peoples Party vote, or by the Burovian vote itself."
"Looking at Lyndon, for example, a dreamy little north-east coastal electorate, with a large number of dairy farmers, the normal Conservative voters have divided their vote between the Conservatives, the Burovians and the Utanian National Alliance, an independent dairy farmers group. This now means that the Peoples Party are only a few hundred votes away from winning that seat off the Conservatives. "And in Dansvelt, to the south, the result is only a few dozens of votes apart, and with three-quarters of the vote still to be counted, this is one that most certainly could go any way." When asked whether this would mean a change in government, Prof. Kapur was a little less enthusiastic. "I think we are more likely to see the Burovians and Liberals added to Governor Hope's government coalition."
