President Kyonte condemns coup
Saturday, March 31, 301 AP Web posted at 0415 UST. OJOMO, Rovens (RIM) -- The Peoples Republic of Rovens is walking a tight-rope this morning with an apparent coup in the nation's capital, and the coup master calling on the military to overthrow the government. Now, President Kyonte has publicly condemned the coup as "reckless" President Kyonte this morning went on national radio, from his hometown of Ojomo, condemning the attempted coup as "destabilising" to the country. Shooting has been reported in downtown Haastadt, and it is understood a special police unit attempted to arrest several soldiers at a blockade. Several other instances of shooting have been reported, but the President called on the police to "hold back" from trying to evict the soldiers. It is understood that five police have been injured and one of those has since died from his wounds. No reports of paratrooper deaths have been made, though it is understood that at least two have been wounded in the main police action. He denounced the so-called list of crimes of the Kyonte government, which focused on the government's failure to provide a "safe and secure" country. Defending his administration's policy of negotiating with the communist rebels, he said negotiating had bourn fruit, with a peace not seen in Rovens since the 60s, and an "opportunity to make a new nation". He called on General Keralski to denounce the coup and support the "direction for change". It was a clear signal that the President has not yet spoken to the General. It will be a futile gesture unless the country's military chief, General Keralski, denounces the coup. Should the Commander in Chief support it, the short-lived Peoples Republic will die within days, having little support within the armed forces. As yet, General Keralski, CiC of the Rovens armed forces, has not yet condemned the coup. Meanwhile, the instability further wrecks the country's reputation.
