Colonel Zegannin arrested
Sunday, April 3, 301 AP Web posted at 0845 UST. HAASTADT, Rovens (RIM) -- The man who lead the attempted coup against the PIMR-Kyonte regime has finally been arrested by military police after his coup failed to gain the essential military backing it needed.
Colonel Zegannin, however, has been defiantly refusing to surrender. With a tight core of about twenty paratroopers, the Colonel had barricaded himself inside the national Parliament building, calling on General Keralski to reconsider his actions. Keralski responded by giving the Colonel two days to surrender, and five paratroopers deserted their seditious Colonel. When the remainder did not, Keralski sent in heavily armed military police to arrest them. The ensuing gun battle saw five paratroopers seriously injured, including Colonel Zegannin. President Kyonte then declared the "coup has ended" and the CBD would soon be repaired and ready for people to enter it again. The action has had a devastating effect on Haastadt, the country's financial centre, with many businesses damaged, and closed down for several days, and has damaged the reputation of the Peoples Republic of Rovens. Only determined and decisive action from the President can restore confidence in the country. Many are calling for General Keralski to be sacked.
