Communists march in hundreds of thousands
Saturday, May 5, 301 AP Web posted at 0729 UST. PATAK, Rovens (RIM) -- An estimated 400,000 protesters rallied in support of the Pataki Communist Party in the city of Patak in the communist rebel-controlled hinterland of Rovens on Tuesday. While a few thousand managed to rally in support of the PIMR government in other cities.
Pier G'nossa is the Secretary of the PCP, shown above waving to the crowd in the Patak city square. He is one of the main negotiators and is a key figure in the running of the virtual Pataki separate state, being the effective Interior Minister. The PCP are the political wing of the communist Pataki Peoples Army, a rebel group numbering an estimated 25,000 rebels that controls the north-western hinterland of Rovens around the city of Patak. The PPA are currently in negotiations with the government to end the forty-year rebellion, and allow internationally-monitored national elections that include the rebel-held territories. The rally was clearly a political ploy to strengthen the hand of the PCP in negotiations, which have threatened to break down on several occasions. Such strength in supporter numbers suggest that the PCP might win as many as three million votes of twelve million voters in Rovens, making them a key member of the PIMR coalition, or possibly the most potent opposition: thus the threat to the PIMR government negotiators.
